Fire Engineering Technician

10 August 2009 by Jim Bennett

Good news for those members that possess the IFE Graduate qualification you can now become a Fire Engineering Technician.

Recently due to the IFE becoming the Awarding body for Fire Sector qualifications it is now possible for IFE members holding the Graduate qualification or old Station Officers qualification to become Engineering Technicians. This is a great opportunity for members who hold these qualifications to gain wider recognition of their qualifications.

This can be a great way for more mature members who carry out Fire Protection duties in local authority Fire and Rescue Services to gain a very worthwhile internationally recognised qualification. This qualification lends itself to giving a member/s increased credibility as the award confirms that the recipient is competent to Engineering Technician standard.

In essence all that is required is for a member holding the Graduate or Station Officers qualifications to supply a written competency statement ( relevant CPD) along with their Graduate or Station Officer Diplomas as appropriate. A Eng Tech review panel will then decide if the individual based on evidence supplied is competent to be awarded the award of Engineering Technician.

An initial expression of interest should be made to the SIFE Secretary.

N.B. Senior Local authority Fire and Rescue Service managers may wish to put forward a number of suitably qualified individuals for this award.
